SYNTHIA is the largest and most ambitious industry-driven R&D project in the development and use of Synthetic Data (SD) in healthcare by improving techniques for generating realistic, multimodal, and longitudinal data, particularly in genomics and imaging. This initiative seeks to standardize methods for benchmarking and evaluating SD generation technologies, and to develop frameworks for assessing their validity and application in healthcare. The project involves a multidisciplinary team including developers, researchers, legal experts, and policy advocates to create a federated platform that will offer secure, long-term access to validated synthetic datasets and related workflows. This platform will support interoperability with European health data infrastructures and address legal and regulatory aspects to ensure the responsible use of SD in accelerating data-driven healthcare solutions
