Description

PHYNEST is a proposed MSCA COFUND Doctoral Programme designed to foster a new generation of interdisciplinary scientists working at the interface of physics, computational modelling, and neuroscience, with a strong translational focus on neurodegenerative disorders. Hosted at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) in Barcelona and supported by leading academic, clinical, and industrial partners, PHYNEST aims to train 26 PhD fellows through cutting-edge research projects, tailored training modules, and intersectoral secondments.

The scientific scope of PHYNEST spans theoretical and experimental approaches to understand brain structure–function relationships, disease mechanisms in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, and novel photonic and imaging techniques for early diagnosis. Fellows will be embedded in a vibrant ecosystem and benefit from mentoring, transferable skills training, and entrepreneurial exposure, preparing them for careers across academia, healthcare, and deep-tech innovation.
