Description

VOLSCAN (Phase 1 – GA No. 827534) and OPVOL (Phase 2 – Seal of Excellence) are two linked project proposals submitted under the Horizon 2020 SME Instrument by the Spanish company RIELEC, with proposal design and writing led by MATICAL.

The innovation consists of an advanced machine vision system capable of accurately measuring the volume of rigid and semi-rigid products with irregular geometries, enabling highly efficient and automated packaging optimization. This technology addresses key inefficiencies in industrial packaging lines, reducing material waste, logistics costs, and environmental impact.

The system integrates 3D imaging, AI-based object recognition, and real-time data processing to recommend optimal packaging dimensions, making it especially valuable for sectors like e-commerce, logistics, and manufacturing.
